General Aftercare Advice I Recommend Following a Reflexology Treatment

To help you get the most from your Reflexology session, I always give specific individual advice to each client based on their symptoms and what showed up on their feet during the treatment, but aside from those, there are always a few simple aftercare guidelines I recommend to everyone. I will go through some of these today. These suggestions can support your body's natural healing processes and help you maintain the benefits of your treatment.

While a reflexology treatment may last between one and one and a half hours, it is what you do between appointments that often has the greatest impact on your wellbeing journey.

One of the things I always tell my regular clients at the end of a reflexology treatment is, "Take it easy! And drink your water! ” This usually raises a smile because they have heard me say it countless times before. However, there is a good reason why I keep repeating it.

Apart from that, I try to encourage a greater awareness of your body and how it responds to everyday factors such as stress, sleep, nutrition, movement, lifestyle habits and of course Reflexology!

Here are the main aftercare recommendations I give following a treatment.

Drink Plenty of Water

Staying well hydrated after reflexology is one of the simplest and most important things you can do.

Water supports many of the body's natural processes and can help you feel refreshed following your treatment. I recommend drinking water regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty or just downing a litre in one go! Herbal teas are also a good option if you are not too keen on water. Just avoid sugar-loaded drinks and excessive caffeine. Adequate hydration is not just for the day of the treatment; make drinking water a daily habit, and you will notice the benefits in your concentration, bowel movements, and skin, just to name a few.

Take It Easy for the rest of the day

Many of my clients lead busy lives, balancing careers, family commitments, and countless demands on their time.

After reflexology, your body may appreciate a slower pace. If possible, avoid filling the rest of your day with unnecessary stress or strenuous activity. Don’t go for that circuit gym training session today! Give yourself permission to slow down, rest, and enjoy the sense of balance that the treatment has encouraged.

Some clients feel energised after treatment, while others feel deeply relaxed and ready for an early night. Neither response is right or wrong. The key is to listen to your body.

Be Mindful of What You Eat

I often encourage clients to think about how they are nourishing themselves between appointments.

Where possible, choose nutrient-rich foods that support your overall well-being. Fresh vegetables, fruit, quality proteins, healthy fats, and whole foods can all play a role in helping you feel your best.

Many people are surprised by how much their daily food choices can influence their energy, digestion, sleep, and general well-being.

I also encourage clients to notice how their body responds to different foods. We are all individuals, and what works well for one person may not work as well for another.

Listen to Your Body's Response

One of the most valuable aspects of reflexology; is greater body awareness.

Following a treatment, some clients report sleeping more deeply, waking feeling more refreshed, experiencing improved bowel movements, or noticing fewer aches and pains. Others may simply feel calmer and more relaxed.

Every person responds differently, which is why I encourage clients to pay particular attention to what their body is telling them rather than comparing their experiences with anyone else’s.

The Real Work Happens Between Appointments

While reflexology can be a wonderful opportunity to relax, unwind, and support your wellbeing, it is only one part of the picture.

The choices you make between treatments, how you manage stress, the quality of your sleep, your nutrition, your movement, and your self-care habits all contribute to your overall health and well-being.

My goal is not only to provide a relaxing treatment but also to encourage clients to become more connected with their bodies and more mindful of what helps them feel well.

So next time you leave my treatment room and hear me say, "Take it easy and drink your water," you'll know there is a little more meaning behind those words!
