An Eastern Perspective for Reflexologists

Integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupressure into Reflexology Practice

Two Day Workshop for Qualified Reflexologists

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a unique understanding of health, wellbeing and the interconnected nature of the human body. While reflexology training is generally grounded in Western anatomy and physiology, Eastern medicine offers a different way of understanding the relationships among symptoms, patterns of imbalance, and the body's natural healing processes.

This two-day workshop has been specifically designed for qualified reflexologists. It provides an understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a practical framework for incorporating selected acupressure techniques into existing reflexology treatments.

Drawing on over 30 years of clinical experience in both Reflexology and Acupuncture, this workshop combines the foundational principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with practical acupressure techniques that can be applied through the feet and hands.

Practical Application

A major focus of the workshop is the practical application of acupuncture meridian theory through the feet and hands, areas that reflexologists work with every day in clinical practice.

Rather than attempting to cover large numbers of acupuncture points, this workshop focuses on a carefully selected range of the most commonly used and clinically valuable acupoints located on the feet and hands. These points are widely used within acupuncture practice and can be readily incorporated into reflexology treatments.

Participants will learn:

  • The pathways of the principal meridians associated with the feet and hands

  • Accurate location of key acupoints

  • The actions and indications of individual points

  • Techniques for stimulating and sedating acupoints

  • How to integrate acupressure into reflexology treatments

  • How to recommend appropriate acupressure points as part of a client's home care programme

The emphasis throughout is on practical application. Participants will develop confidence in identifying and working with acupoints that can support a wide range of common presentations encountered in clinical practice.

By focusing on points located on the feet and hands, participants will be able to seamlessly integrate their learning into the areas they already work with as reflexologists, while offering clients additional support through simple yet effective self-care techniques to use between treatments.

An Eastern Perspective on Health and Wellbeing

Throughout the workshop, you will be introduced to key concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including:

  • The philosophical foundations of TCM

  • Yin and Yang theory

  • Qi and the flow of energy throughout the body

  • The Vital Substances

  • The Organ Systems of Chinese Medicine

  • The Meridian Network and energetic pathways

  • The relationship between symptoms, patterns and balance from an Eastern perspective

  • The flow of energy through the meridian system

  • An introduction to Five Element theory

The workshop is designed to help you understand how Eastern medicine views health and wellbeing, offering a fresh perspective that complements your existing reflexology knowledge and skills.

You will begin to appreciate how symptoms that may appear unrelated from a Western perspective can be viewed as interconnected within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing a broader understanding of the client and their healing journey.
